Volcanoes National Park is among Africa’s oldest conservation areas gazette as a way of protecting the critically endangered species of the mountain gorillas and Golden Monkeys according to the IUCN relist, the park was gazette in 1925 as a national conservation area following a lot of poaching from the indigenous people, Volcanoes obtains its name from the volcanoes within the national Park. Other small hikes include the Dian Fossey to the reach center of Karisoke, it is where the American primatologist did her great works on primate study, especially the mountain gorillas, she died and was buried at the research center where many visitors that come to the park, pay tribute to the tombs, enroute is an angelic vegetative cover, tree climbing plants and tree species. Her work with mountain gorillas was portrayed in the Movie ‘Gorillas in the mist’.

Where to stay in Volcanoes national park is dotted almost around the park, some of the facilities are a five minutes walk to the national park, the accommodation is ranged from midrange to the best budget including the five volcanoes gorilla lodge, Bisate lodge, Kiningi guest house to mention a few. It is possible to do stay in Kigali city and do activities in the national park, the reason is that it is only 2 hours’ drive from the capital city of Rwanda, it is one of those close national parks to a city center. The best time to visit is during the dry season between December –February, June- September. The park can be accessed by road from Kigali.
